Shield Round 3 – October 29 – Lakeside

Junior Men’s Report

Great effort by the Junior Hunter Men at Lakeside Stadium.
The 200m was well covered by our Hunter Juniors with great runs in the U18s by Sean F, Braydn T, Callum C, Jamie K, Shaun F and the U16s by Hamish R, Liam K & Sebastian Z. The 800m also attracted quite a few of our Junior men with some awesome efforts by U18 Jack M, U16s Nick P, Chris H & Declan M, and U14 Oliver K. Chris H followed his 800m with a 3000m and was also able to fit in a 400m relay!!! Great team spirit Chris! Tom M & Lachlan H battled it out in the 200m hurdles while Liam K represented us with a great leap in the triple jump and Ian P & Sebastian Z with strong throws in the shot put. The Junior men capped off the day with 3 teams competing in the 4 x 400. Well done!

Junior Women’s Report

Round 3 was our inaugural shield competition at the new Lake Side Stadium Albert Park and the sun gods shone upon us, hey how was that bright blue track hope you didn’t forget your sunnies!

We had a fantastic input of new junior girls welcome to Sarah Cleary, Ashleigh Chappele, Maddison Holmstrom, Hannah Llewelyn, Olivia Telfer and Flore M.

Once again all of the Junior Girls competed well and we had some terrific results. Just a few mentions; Courtney Wood ran a great 800m and rallied the troops to put together a 4x400m relay. Sarah Cleary on her first Hunters appearance displayed some great sportsmanship by filling in for our 4x400m U18 in the middle of her preferred event, HJ. Well done to all our Relay teams who all gave it their best and earned us many team points with the excellent results. Eva Zeleznikow our only Junior walker took the 3000m walk in her stride. Our field events were covered by Chynea Lang, Olivia Telfar, Sarah Cleary & Molly Garu U20 HJ.

Great work girl’s good luck to those of you competing at All Schools this weekend and see you all on the 12th November.

*Can we please remind all Junior Hunters to email their team managers if they wish to compete in the Victorian State Relay Championships.

Round Three saw Glenhuntly compete at another new track – this time it was Lakeside Stadium at Albert Park. But this week saw some sunny conditions and it was a good turnout of Hunters in both the track and field.

Highlights of Round Three include:
· Continued great form from Georgina Beech in winning the 800m (2.19.7min)
· A good turnout in the 5000m with five girls competing – Melissa V, Georgie B, Cassie H, Bridget C and Kellie Mac. Our quickest was Melissa Vandewater with a time of 18.01.5
· Well Done Molly G for a win in the High Jump and Juliet A in the Shot Put
· 200m and relay results are not available at time of writing
· Special thanks to Kellie MacNamara and Donna Brammer for helping with Team Management duties this week!

There is a week break from competition next week before Shield competition commences at Mentone track on the 12th November. Hope to see you there!
