The final Round of Shield for 2012 before the Christmas break came down to Mentone in extremely good sprinting and jumping conditions. This did see some personal bests achieved on the day especially in the 100m and the long jump.
The 100m is to be looked at first which saw one of the more senior members of the team Leigh Pheelan run 11.34, which was followed by one of the youngest members of the team in Dylan Calleja running 11.40 and Aaron Miller with 11.74. Angelo Portelli ran a swift 13.49 for the 40 +. This was another strong showing by the men’s open team. The 400m is the next sprint event to be looked at, which saw club captain Will Little lead the way with a 52.72, which was followed by Aaron Miller with 53.07 and Kurt Golonka with 55.67.
The 1500m saw some good competition with the Hunter athletes. Club vice captain Chris Winter lead the way with 4.18.2, which was followed by Jordan Crane in 4.23.2 and Darren Henstridge with 4.54.4. The 40 + saw Andrew Ross run 5.46.5. The 3K only saw one athlete competing, with John Zeleznikov leading the 40 + with 23.21.4.
The Relay’s are to be looked at next, with the 4 x 100m being the relay this round. This saw us again have two teams entered, which showed our strength as a club. The 2K walk saw Peter Buller lead the way with 13.31.4.
The field events are next, and the long jump had close to perfect conditions. This saw some personal bests across the age groups. In the open team Tim Rosen lead the way after finally cracking the 6m after some years with a 6.02m, so well done on that effort. Bruce McInnes with a 3.55m jump for 40 + lead the way. Beau Lang lead the way for pole vault with 3.00m.
The throws will be looked at next, with Javelin looked at first. Beau Lang lead the way with 45.90m, which was followed by Pat Beraun with 36.78m and Justin Cohen with 28.75m. The discus was next which saw Pat Beraun lead the way with 37.20m, with Beau Lang next with 26.89m and Tim Rosen with 25.68m.
This wraps up the last round of interclub for 2012, with the next Round being Round 10 held at Frankston starting at 4:30pm on Saturday the 12th of January. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Years!
