Shield Round 11 Report: Murrumbeena

Womens Report

Round 11 at our home track Duncan Mackinnon saw a fantastic turn out for the open women’s team.  Most of the ladies were putting in an extra effort for the day and ‘taking one for the team’ to ensure qualification for finals. This includes Cass Higham’s massive day, qualifying in the 2km walk and the 3k steeple chase, as well as competing in the 1500m and the 400m- thanks and well done Cass! Other qualifying performances were Emily’s amazing 100m hurdles, Sophie’s epic 30m javelin, Kirrily’s 400m, and not forgetting Birgitta and Katja’s performances in the Javelin after driving over an hour to make it on the day- thanks so much ladies! Big thanks also to Juliet and Molly for turning up on a Thursday night to pole vault their way into our finals team- well done to both of you! Also a big thanks to all the ladies who helped out on Saturday, especially to Anna T and Helen for doing such a wonderful job running the canteen all day on Saturday. It’s these efforts of doing what you can and even going outside your preferred events to earn team points that makes our women’s team so strong, and we are very appreciative of each and every one of these extra events competed in.

Our team also had a successful day on the track, with the 1500m race dominated by Glenhuntly, with Amelia and Tarli taking out 2nd and 3rd placings, and Nicola not far behind them. Sherena, Emily, Amber and Kirrily put in a terrific effort in what was a pretty strong head wind and ran some good times for the 100m.

With only one round of interclub to come before shield finals, we would love to see everyone down at Casey. Even if shield finals isn’t on your agenda, it would be great to catch up one last time for the summer season. Do keep in mind that you need to have competed in 4 rounds of interclub to qualify for our finals team, and we would love to have as many of our girls a part of this team as we possibly can.  The word going around the club is that our women’s team have a real shot at winning shield finals, with a lot of depth and most places filled in our team. Enjoy the well-deserved long weekend off, keep up the hard work and see you all at Casey on Feb 2nd. And REMEMEMBER: KEEP SATURDAY Feb 16th FREE FOR SHIELD FINALS!
