Margaret Fisher, a Life Member of Athletics Victoria and an official with over 47 years service to the sport in Australia died suddenly on Saturday. 10 August. Margaret, a recipient of the Australian Sports Medal, had a love of sport and was eagerly waiting for the World Championships to begin and Australia to win a test in cricket (her two loves) when she died of a heart attack.
In her 95 years Margaret packed a lot in – she was a trustee with the Kitty McEwan Foundation which recognises the Victorian Sportswoman of the Year; a board member of Disability Sports Victoria and a Life Member of Malvern Harriers Athletics Club.
Margaret will be fondly remembered at the Glenhuntly Venue as she sat each Saturday for years either in the recording tent or on the wind gauge – a position she had at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Margaret Fisher will be sadly missed by all in the sport of athletics.
Funeral will be at WD Rose Funeral Parlour, corner of Marriage Road and Nepean Highway Brighton (VIC) this Friday 16 August at 10:00am
