Victorian Relay Championships 2013

Junior Men

WOW!!! Can the Junior Hunter Men run!!

Congratulations to all the Junior Hunter Men on a very successful Victorian Relay Championships. I have never seen so many young men, one after the other, give 100%, expend all reserves and then DIG DEEPER to find that little bit more to get their team across the line. Their efforts were rewarded with PBs for nearly every athlete, top 8 places and 1Gold and 2 Bronze medals.

The following young men are to be commended on their outstanding team spirit and excellent results:

Under 14

4 x 100 Yotam Kimchi, Joseph Inglis, Ben Edwards & Jesse Scholz – This team won the straight final by about 30 metres only to discover they’d been DQ. Although disappointing for the boys, this team will be a major contributor to the Shield competition helping the Under 14s gain those important relay points.

4 x 400 Joseph Inglis, Yotam Kimchi, Jake Roberts & Jesse Scholtz – GOLD (4.00.55)

Under 16

4 x 400 Andrew McGrath, Rys Martin, Matthew Crowley & Daniel Hamilton – BRONZE (3.42.89)

Medley Andrew McGrath, Rhys Martin, Daniel Hamilton & Haftu Strinzos – 1ST/4TH (3.50.97) These boys won their heat of the Medley. As it was a timed final their overall placing was 4th.

Under 18

4 x 100 Edwin Kwek, Tom Montgomerie, Sebastian Zammit & Tom Forster-Williams – 4th (Heat, 48.65)

4 x 400 Ryan Losty,  Declan Murphy, Tom Montgomerie & Tom Forster-Williams – BRONZE (3.35.96)

Medley Edwin Kwek,  Tom Forster-Williams, Declan Murphy &  Ryan Losty – 3RD/6TH (3.49.37) These boys came 3rd in their heat of the Medley. As it was a timed final their overall placing was 6th.

Well done Junior Men!! You are going to be serious contenders for Shield Finals with these wonderful State results.

The women from Glenhuntly were very well represented at Lakeside Stadium last Saturday. 14 girls formed 7 teams across the 4 events and achieved some fantastic results. Highest achievers were our girls in the 4x800m; Anna Ross, Anna Neumaier, Laura Eades and Danielle Trowell, who took silver. In the 4x100m the A team, made up of Amber King, Emily McLean, Ash Horrobin and Sherena Mulgrave, made the final where they came 4th in a time of 49.77. With less than a second separating 2nd through 5th places it was a close race. The B team were 13th in the heats in a very respectable time of 55.21.

Despite a dropped baton the medleys still went very well; Amber, Emily, Ash and Karinna Fyfe finished in 6th position and Sherena, Estelle Lopes, Evgeniya Averina and Josie O’Sullivan in 15th. Nobody appeared to be a fan of timed finals especially when three heats were concerned.

After last year’s lack of 400m runners in the 4x400m event it was spectacular to have two teams entered and have both of them qualify for the final to be held at Zatopek on December 12th. Both teams placed 4th in their respective heats and made it through on time. In heat one Estelle, Kirrily Burnett, Laura and Josie ran 4.16.12, with the rain coming down in sheets during Laura’s leg and not holding up until after the second race had finished. Amber was drenched before she’d even set up her blocks and the remaining three members of the team were left to wait for their turns in the pouring rain. She ran strong in her first 400m, as did Emily. Ash and Georgina Ryan both ran sub 60 second legs to clock 4.01.88 for the team, a fantastic result which can hopefully be repeated at Zatopek.

Congratulations to all the Hunters who competed, although it was long day, there was a great atmosphere at the track and you all achieved some great results.
