Senior Men’s Report
Round 3 at Brimbank Park saw a huge turnout from the Open Men, with nearly 30 of us conquering the big hill twice, filling 5 teams. Division 1 followed up a strong showing from Round 2 with third place this week.
Leading the charge were our usual bunch of strong performers: Toby, Rhydian & Craig, all in the top 20, with Toby on the podium. There was a fight to fill the rest of the team, with the next 5 runners coming in within 3 minutes of each other.
A strong run by Beau Lang moved him ever closer to breaking the one hour mark for the 16km course.
Big PBs by Matt Wynne and Chris Allan also had them moving up the ranks significantly from last year.
Feels good to have the big 10-miler out of the way for another year – thanks to everyone who stayed to cheer us up the hill!
JUNIOR BOYS @ BRIMBANK PARK 2014
Round 3 of XC14 was held at the popular but challenging course at Brimbank Park Keilor.
Again, we were unable to complete a team (teams of 3) in any of the under age boys teams; this is particularly disappointing. Nevertheless, the boys who did compete all did very well to show the club colours.
We hope that soon our many juniors who presently compete in School events at APS/AGS on Saturday mornings will become available as their school events finish their season.
In U20, first year cross country runner Jack Marquardt ran in the 6km to finish 23rd; a very good effort. Jack had to race away quickly on finishing the race to play a game of hockey but had time to reflect on “the hill” which he described as heartbreaking. We hope to see Eamon Murphy back soon as he recovers from glandular fever; get well soon Eamon. We also hope to see Ben, Nick, Daniel, and Jack soon.
In U18, we had two competitors, Sam Toll and Declan Murphy, who ran the 8km course (two laps of 4km). Sam ran a very competitive race in a high quality field to finish in 16th position; an impressive performance. Well done Sam. Declan, returning from an injury break inflicted at Duncan Mackinnon reserve is beginning to regain form to finish 33rd. We hope to see Chris, Michael, Jack H and Jack S on the circuit soon.
In U16, we had just one starter, our determined Will Ockenden, who ran very well for 12th placing. Will continues to show out in his races and is steadily improving; well done Will. We hope to see Haftu, Max, and Jasper soon, which would make for a very strong team.
We had no U14 starters.
I look forward to the day when we are able to start teams in all junior age groups.
Recruitment is vital and I encourage all boys to bring along their friends to enjoy a run and create a team spirit.
Junior Boys Team Manager.
