CLUB JUNIORS SHOW OUTSTANDING PROMISE AT ALL SCHOOLS XC.
At the All Schools Cross Country Championships held at Bundoora last Saturday (13 June) sixteen members attacked the challenging course over the hills at Bundoora Park.
It was a great day for Cross Country running. The weather was a perfect Melbourne winters day, cool, sunny, and no wind. The course was soft in spots, but generally firm. Most runners felt it was a tough, challenging course.
The results from our Club members were outstanding (8 finishing in the top 10 in their age), testament to their hard work at training, and also representative of their undoubted talent.
Two members won titles.
Ben Kelly, in one of the most dominant runs I have seen at the championships, took total control of the U20 race to absolutely trounce the opposition. Well done Ben. It showed you have benefited greatly from your representation of Australia at the recent World Cross Country Championships.
Georgie Macdonald, running for Caulfield Grammar in the U17, had a great win, to continue her form from last summer when she broke club junior records for 800m and 1500m. Well done Georgie.
The following also achieved top placings in their age group event.
Haftu Strintzos in the U17 boys won silver, just 3 seconds behind the winner with Will Ockenden 4th, a further 6 seconds behind. Outstanding effort boys.
Sam Toll was another to finish full of running with a great 4th placing in the U18 boys, with Daniel Hamilton in 10th place..
Adam Spencer was a gallant 6th in the U15 boys and Genevieve O’Brien 7th in the U14 girls.
Jasper Pickering 11th and Liam Halloran 12th in the U16 boys, Dana Dekkers 16th (9th in the schools event) and Sophie Highnam 15th in the U18 girls also showed good form .
The club were further represented by:
Romin Kodikara 30 U14 Juliet McBurney 37 U15
Alistair Strutt 22 U15 Larissa McBurney 18 U17
Cody Bellgrove 43 U15
Beau Sciberris 38 U16
Jack Highnam 29 U20
Luke McCarthy 48th U18
It was great to see so many from the Club represent their school. I hope that many of you will also be available for the next club race at Albert Park.
Well done to all competitors.
