JUNIORS @ BRIMBANK 2015
Despite early concerns regarding the weather, the races at Brimbank were run in good XC conditions; cool with little wind.
Although we were only represented by a team in the boys U20 event, there were some outstanding results achieved by some of our juniors in a number of races.
U20 Boys 6km Ben Kelly led the team into third placing behind Knox and Western Athletics. Ben ran strongly for third placing to complete an outstanding winter season by winning Athletics Victoria’s Champion U20 athlete award by one point. Great effort Ben; a top season. Jack Bullock 15th and Declan Murphy 18th made up our team and both showed good form in what is a very strong field of young athletes. Jack finished 12th in the champion athlete award.
U18 Boys 8km Will Ockenden had his best ever result in finishing a very close second in this event; just over 2 seconds from the winner. Magnificent effort, and coming on top of his win in the state Schools Cyclecross championships. . Sam Toll, who was struggling with a heavy cold on the day, ran into 6th placing ; a very gutsy effort. Both boys have had excellent seasons, both finishing high on the AV Champion Athlete awards. Sam finished 2nd and Will 4th in the awards. Outstanding effort boys.
U16 Boys 6km Beau Sciberras continues to show improvement in his debut year and finished with a very good run in 17th position. We unfortunately lost both Jasper and Liam to injuries; both had been very good contributors to the team during the season.
U20 Girls 4km Dana Dekkers Dana is having a great season with consistent performances and wins at regional school events. She finished 7th in this event and has proven to be a fantastic club person. In the Athletics Victoria Champion Athlete award Dana finished 8th for the season. Well done.
U18 Girls 6km Sophie Highnam Sophie continues her strong performances and has certainly improved during the season. She finished 11th in this event.
U16 Girls 6km Eleanora Gilbert It was good to see Eleanora run this challenging event in her debut year. She continues the long line of Gilberts who have represented our club for 4 decades now (Ben, Kara (still going), Ebony, Fran (secretary and official) and of course club helper Barry). Well done Eleanora in finishing 23rd.
