Tan Relays – Open and Masters Men
The Tan Relays were first held in 2005, to add a fourth relay, and 10th event to the Winter premiership. It is a 3.78km circuit, comprising one lap of the Tan track around the Melbourne Botanical Gardens and Kings Domain.
So this year was the 11th staging of the event.
Our best club placing in Men’s Division one/premiers is second on 2 occasions, 2009 and 2010.
This year we had quite an incredible number of teams and runners taking part with 8 Open Men’s teams, 2 x 40+ age group teams and 2 x 50+ teams – a total of 50 runners. Additionally we saw 3 teams competing by invitation from TV and Len’s ‘Run Monash’ (Monash University) squad – another 13 male participants.
Only one of our age group records was broken, by Chris Wardlaw (men 65-69) who took the record from Eric Sigmont with his time of 15.54.
Han Quach is now the only one of our open males to have participated in our teams in all 11 stagings of the relay.
Results for our teams were mixed, with the second placed M40+ (1) team our best. However we were most competitive in all divisions and age groups, finishing in high places on all the premiership ladders at the end of the season.
Thanks particularly to our team captain, Simon Bowly, for his leadership and great support, and to Len Johnson for his involvement and input.
And we offer our congratulations to the club Women’s division one team on scoring another great win – their 4th in the event.
