WOMEN WALKERS TAKE SILVER AT WALKER’S CLUB TEAMS EVENT.

The Club’s Women Walkers secured second placing tin the Victorian Amateur Walkers Club 5km Teams Race on Sunday 7th February at Middle Park.

A top effort. To my knowledge it was the first time a club team has entered this event and to finish a team in second place was very pleasing.

A big weekend for our women.

Results: Heather Carr, 6TH 30:29
Gwen Steed 7th 34.27
Samantha Miller 8th 35.18
Sandra Howarth 9th 35:58

We did not have a team in the men’s event, maybe next year though, but in a 3000m effort Ralph Bennett walked 18:02

A quick look at the above, apart from junior Samantha Miller, all walkers are new masters to the club this year.

They have been a magnificent acquisition and have all contributed substantially to the improved results by our masters and the improved enthusiasm for the older age groups.

Let us get behind them and build for the future.

Prior to joining the club, Heather Carr, a champion walker for so long in masters athletics won her age group at the world masters games in 2015. Ralph Bennett also medalled in these Games with silver in both of his events.
