Rhydian, Genevieve, Simone and Ashleigh outstanding at IAAF Melbourne Challenge

At the IAAF Melbourne Challenge held at Lakeside on Saturday 5th March, four HUNTER athletes had outstanding results in their events.

In the Men’s 5km Walk Rhydian Cowley finished second in a PB and Club Record time of 19:26.76. The winner Dane Bird Smith won in Australian Best time. Rhydian is in a rich vein of form and this result is fantastic for him in an Olympic selection season. Rhydian already has an Olympic Qualifier for the 20km walk.

In the Women’s 3km Steeple Genevieve Lacaze finished second in an Olympic Qualifying performance of 9:43.93. This is just a few seconds shy of her club record set while overseas during last winter.

In the Women’s 5km Walk Simone McInnes had a fantastic walk to finish fifth but in a personal best time of 24:07.80. Simone has really been training hard this season under the tutelage of former Australian great Simon Baker (Oakleigh) and is really showing signs as a big improver.

In the Women’s 400m Hurdles Ashleigh Horrobin made her personal best time of 60.94. A bit restricted this season, she is now showing signs of a break through of the 1 minute barrier.

Well done Hunters. You contributed to a great athletics meet.
